Back Skin Care Tips - How to Have a Beautiful and Glowing Back ?

Updated on January 24, 2017

A beautiful back is an invaluable asset that can be flaunted in bikinis, backless party dresses or glamourous silk lingerie. In fact, a beautiful back is an absolutely essential if you want your exit to be as good as your entrance. So, if your attitude to back care has been "out of sight, out of mind", it may be good time to start spending as much time on your back as you do on your facial skin care routine.

Proper Cleansing

When taking a bath, for proper back cleaning, use a loofah, an abrasive sponger or a long bath brush to cleanse your back, especially the back area which is unreachable by hands. Loofah, a natural sponge from a plant, is excellent to be used as a body sponge in the shower to exfoliate dead skin cells and improve circulation of blood throughout the body. Sponging will remove the top layer of dead epidermis cells leaving your skin appear smoother and less wrinkled.

Getting rid of Spots and Blemishes

If you skin is greasy and prone to spots and blemishes, then use an antibacterial soap on your back. According to customers’ review, Clinique's Anti Blemish Soap is the best value soap for skin that suffers from blemishes. The soap soothes and cleanses the skin, without drying it out, and most importantly it helps to treat blemishes. The big soap may look pricey, but it lasts for a long time. A customer has mentioned that after using the soap twice daily, in the morning and at night, for 6 months, she has not even got through half of the soap.

If you have very bad spots on your back, a course of sunbed treatments may improve the condition. Alternatively, a skin doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics to ease the problem.

Covering the Spots

If you have a blemishes break out just before the important occasion, don’t panic, cover it up. Use a liquid concealer. Some of them have quite long wand attachments which make it easier to reach the difficult-to-reach areas. Choose a medicated concealer to hide and heal at the same time. Dab the blemish with a small amount of concealer, and then blend it in well so that there are no visible harsh edges.

After tackling any problem areas with concealer, dust all the exposed skin with loose translucent powder. To get the best finishing, use a large flat powder puff to lightly press the powder to the skin. This will create a velvety-soft appearance as well as evening out skin tone. Loose powder is messy, so be careful to make sure that it doesn’t mark your outfit.

Overcoming Skin Dryness

If you have dry skin on your back, then use a moisturizer. To avoid the dehydrating effects of water when taking a bath, add a few drops of baby oil to your bath. Alternatively, after bath, don’t wipe completely dry, apply baby oil to your skin.

Covering Strap Marks

Strap marks, caused by the sun having tanned around the bikini straps, can ruin the effect of an otherwise a perfectly lovely tan. You can cover the visible lines up by applying a blended fake tanning lotion, foundation or body tint with a piece of cotton wool and then cover them with translucent powder.

White Back

Having a nice tan does make a person feel thinner, sexier and healthier. However, sunbathing has lost its popularity as more women realise the harmful sun’s UV rays in causing premature aging skin, not to mention the increase chances of developing the deadliest form of skin cancer, melanoma.

So, if you have very fair or white back and you want to have a nicely tanned glowing back without sun tanning, then you can fake a tan through self-tanning. Self-tanner can darken skin for up to a week or two.

With someone’s assistance, apply the tanning lotion on your back. Depending on the self-tanner you buy, the brown skin will develop either within 10 minutes or after a few hours, and this works without natural sunlight. If you want a darker colour, you can add another coat. Alternatively, you can use a bronzing powder which can be brushed over a clean, smooth back using a large powder brush.

One of the best rated sun-tanning lotions in the market is Guerlain's Terracotta Self-Tanning Spray for the Body (see right). It dries very quickly after application, so you could dress within 5-10 minutes. The colour is very natural, a brown colour rather than orange. No orange colour reported so far.

Another sun-tanning lotion with excellent review is Glow Fusion (see right). Glow Fusion can be used for face and body tanning and is micro-nutrient natural protein self-tanner, suitable for all skin type. It will not streak, stain or leave any odor or greasy residue. It darkens subtly and gradually and will last up to two weeks without fading.

Grey Appearance

The slightly grey appearance on the skin is probably caused by dead skin cells. It gives a dull look on the skin and should be removed. To get rid of the dead cells and revitalize your skin, use a loofah, back scrubber or a grainy exfoliator to gently massage your back. If you have a dry skin, rub a back brush in circular movements over your skin. This helps to exfoliate the skin, increase the blood circulation and give you a clear and smooth look to your back.

However, if you are not feeling well, the usual skin pigment going grey may be a health concern, especially if your pallor is accompanied by pale lips, tongue, inner mouth and nails. Generally, pallor is caused by a decrease in blood supply to your skin or a decrease in your red blood cells count. Please consult your medical doctor in this case.
